1) Memberships
1.1) Do I have to be a member of BASA to be a member of WPBA?
No, you are not required to be a member of BASA to be a part of WPBA.
However, it is strongly encouraged, as there are registration discounts on all
the meetings and workshops as well as first look at information that filters
down from the national levels
1.2) Who may become a member of BASA or WPBA?
Any Biokineticist, intern, or student studying Biokinetics may become a
member.
1.3) How do I register/ renew membership for BASA?
Registrations are on the web www.biokinetics.org.za. You will receive a
password and username to be able to log in on the members area.

1.4) How do I register with WPBA?
Send an email to wpbiokineticsassociation@gmail.com requesting to be a
part of WPBA. Please give us your name, BK No., contact number and an
email address that is not likely to change (e.g. gmail)
1.5) Am I required to register with BASA?
No, registration with BASA is optional and you may join any time of the year.
Membership is a calendar year of 1 Jan to 31 Dec. Registration with BASA
must be completed by the end of March, otherwise a penalty is levied.
1.6) Am I required to register with HPCSA?
Yes. If you want to practice, you must be registered with HPCSA.
2) Insurance
2.1) Who needs indemnity insurance?
Interns and Biokineticists. Students are covered by the institution they are
studying through.
BASA offers malpractice insurance at a reduced rate but you are not required
to take out the insurance offered.
3) Practice Numbers
3.1) Who needs a practice number?
All qualified Biokineticists that have a practice of their own.
3.2) Do I need a practice number if I work for another Biokineticist?
No,only the practitioner that manages/owns the practice needs a practice number.
3.3) How do I obtain a practice number?
BHF – the Board of Health Funders issue practice numbers. Contact details:

3.4) What do I need to get a practice number?
You need a HPCSA certificate with your BK number, along with BHF registration forms and registration fee.
4) CPD
4.1) What are CPD points and CEU’s?
CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development and CEUs are Continuing
Education Units or "points" that are collected for "keeping current".
4.2) How many points do we need?
You need to accumulate 60 CPD/ CEU’s over a period of 2 years and
the points earned are valid for 24 months for the date of completion of the
activity. NB: 5 CEUs per year need to be ethics points.
4.3) Do Interns need points?
No, interns do not have to accumulate CEUs, but given that the shelf
life of CEUs are 2 years it is useful to start collecting.
4.4) Who keeps records of these points?
You need to. Keep a record of your points and the courses you attended
onthe form provided by HPCSA, the individual CPD activity record (Form
CPD IAR 1). Also keep all of your valid certificates from the course.If audited
by HPCSA, they will request a copy of your certificates as well as your activity

4.5) Do we need to do a first aid or life support course?
All Bios must have both certificates – Level 2 first Aid and the BLS (AED/
CPR) certificates. This needs to be renewed every 2 years.
5) General
5.1) When are my fees due?
HPCSA- April 1,
BASA- Before March of each year.

5.3) How can I get a course accredited?

6) Internships
6.1) Where can I do my internship?
We hope to have a list of accredited practice on the website once it is
obtained. You can also place a seeking employment advert on the website
and regularly check the job postings.
